iFixit partners with Motorola on OEM fix kits so you can replace your phone’s battery or display

iFixit announced a new partnered with Motorola, a win in its campaign for #RightToRepair legislation.
Together, the two companies are making fix kits using OEM parts.
Now if Moto owners have a broken display or a bad battery, they can order a kit and replace everything themselves.

In addition to tearing apart new pieces of technology and writing repair guides, iFixit actively tries to convince companies to make devices user-repairable. In a major step forward, iFixit has announced a new partnership with Motorola has resulted in the release of “fix kits.” With these customers can buy everything they need to repair a good number of Motorola smartphones.

iFixit is selling two different types of kits: battery replacements and LCD screen and digitizer assembly. Each of these comes with everything you’ll need to disassemble your phone, replace whatever is broken, and put everything back together. This includes a screwdriver, required bits, suction handle, tweezers, spudger, and an opening tool.

Motorola is setting an example for major manufacturers to embrace a more open attitude towards repair. If you’re a Motorola customer, you can now either send in your broken device directly to Motorola for repair—or you can fix it yourself with the highest quality parts and tools, plus a free step-by-step guide, all included in our official Motorola OEM Fix Kits.

Unfortunately, iFixit doesn’t state why these fix kits are only available for Motorola’s older smartphones. Going forward, we hope that more repair options are made available for newer handsets, and not just the high-end devices.
