The Honor 8X is one of the Chinese brand’s best budget smartphones, so we’re happy to see the company bring Android Pie and EMUI 9 to the device.
A user on the XDA-Developers forum gave word that the update hit their device, with confirmation coming from a forum member in Macedonia. So what should you expect from the update?
Well, according to screenshots posted by the outlet, you’re looking at a 3.14GB update (if only it landed on Pi Day). The update brings a simplified UI, new audio recorder features, faster app launching, and Huawei Share 3.0.
Huawei revealed EMUI 9 back at IFA 2018, confirming several tweaks in more detail. For one, the company said the settings menu has been simplified from 940 items in EMUI 8 to 843 in the updated skin. Other noteworthy tweaks include moving menu tabs to the bottom, new gesture navigation options, a new password manager, and a 12.9 percent boost to system operation times.
Our own Robert Triggs reviewed the Honor 8X and thought it was a great buy, praising the design, performance, and battery life. But Rob also criticized the camera quality and dated hardware additions (i.e. micro-USB and a single bottom-firing speaker).
