That Ouya console game service is shutting down, if anyone still plays it

The beleaguered Android-based gaming console known as Ouya came in with a bang, dealt with some rocky progress, and ultimately is exiting with a whisper.

According to Razer — which bought the Ouya brand for an undisclosed sum in June 2015 — the micro-console’s game service will shut down on June 25, 2019. After that date, most if not all of the games in the game store will cease to work correctly, depending on whether or not the developers instituted a purchase validation upon launch.

Along with the termination of the game service, Razer is also discontinuing its own Forge TV game service as well as the lesser-known Mad Catz M.O.J.O., another micro-console.

Editor's Pick

Razer encouraged Ouya users to migrate to Forge TV after the discontinuation of hardware production for the Ouya console. With the shutdown of all these services, the very concept of the Android-based micro-console is essentially going to vanish.

If you have funds invested in the Ouya game store, you will need to spend them before June 25. After that day, your account will shut down and you will lose it all. There is no way to cash out your store credits or get a refund.

If you still regularly play your Ouya console, try to get in as much play time as you can over the next month. After June 25, it could essentially be a brick.
