Netflix is one of the more expensive video streaming services available, costing as much as $16 per month. That translates to around $190 per year, which is no chump change. You could do a lot with that money including saving it for a rainy day or buying a new smartphone like the Nokia 4.2, Moto G7 Power, or Samsung Galaxy A30, just to name a few.
Luckily, you can! With a little bit of time, effort, and creativity, you don’t have to spend a dime to watch the latest Netflix shows and movies. In this short guide, we’ll show you exactly how to get Netflix for free. Let’s get started.
Get a free Netflix trial. Then another. And another…
Sure, this is an obvious one, but there’s more to it than you might think. Netflix offers a free one month trial, allowing you to test out the service before you decide to part with your money. All you have to do is visit Netflix’s website and sign up with your email address and credit card. Once the free trial expires, you’ll be automatically charged for the plan you selected when signing up.
The trick here is to cancel your membership before the free trial comes to an end and then wait for a new one. Netflix is known for offering its customers a second free trial via an email a few months after the first one ends, although this doesn’t apply to everyone. Additionally, if you sign up for the service around a year or so after your first free trial ends, there’s a good chance you won’t be charged for the first month.
I got three Netflix free trials in little more than a year.
I’m speaking from experience here: I’ve taken advantage of three free trials so far. The first one when I signed up for the service for the first time and the second one a few months later, thanks to a promo email sent to me by Netflix. I got the third one around a year or so after innitially signing up for Netflix if I remember correctly. I wanted to subscribe and pay the monthly fee right away, but I got another free trial for whatever reason. Thanks for that, Netflix!
Unfortunately, this method will only get you a maximum of three months of Netflix for free in the first year or so, and that’s only if you’re lucky. To get more, you’ll need multiple email addresses and credit cards. Whenever you use a new payment method and an email address, you can get yourself a free month of Netflix. So, you could use yours first, and then your father’s, mother’s, brother’s…you get the picture. This won’t allow you to watch Netflix for free forever, but it’s better than nothing. And if you can get multiple free trials for each account you sign up with, you could be saving quite a lot of money. You’re welcome!

To get Netflix for free for a longer period of time without having to sign up for a free trial every month, you’ll have to be super nice to friends and family who are already paying for the service. Two of Netflix’s three subscription plans allow for streaming on multiple devices at the same time. You can also make separate profiles that let you create your own list of movies and TV shows you want to watch, set a language preference, and get personalized recommendations.
So, here’s the plan: all you have to do is ask one of your friends or family members to hook you up with the login info for their Netflix account. Once you have that, create your own profile and start binge watching for free. It’s not the easiest thing to pull off, but it can be done.
Unfortunately, you can’t assign a different password to each profile, which means that the owner of the Netflix account will be able to see exactly what you have been watching. In case that includes movies or TV shows you’re not exactly proud of, you can delete your Netflix history for peace of mind — here’s how to do it.
Take advantage of free Netflix offers from carriers, ISPs…
A few mobile carriers are offering free Netflix access to their customers. Yes, I know, this method of getting free Netflix technically isn’t free since you have to sign up for one of the carriers’ plans, but it’s a great option if you already plan on doing that.
You can get Netflix for free on eligible plans from T-Mobile, which include Magenta and T-Mobile One Plus. Terms and conditions apply, though, with one of them being that you’ll need two or more lines on your account to get Netflix for free. Verizon had a similar offer for Fios customers, but it looks like that has already expired. As always, there’s a chance it will come back in the near future.
We’ve seen similar offers from carriers outside the U.S. as well. In the U.K., O2 offered Netflix to its subscribers in the past, as did Vodafone. Airtel is currently trying to lure customers by offering them Netflix for free, along with Amazon’s Prime Video.

Bonus tip: Try competing streaming services
Netflix is the biggest and arguably the best video streaming service out there, but it’s not the only one. To save money, you could try competing services including HBO Now, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu, all of which offer free trials.
Each of these streaming services offers loads of great content. For example, Amazon’s Prime Video features great original series including The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Man in the High Castle, and Homecoming. You’ll find hit TV shows like Game of Thrones and The Sopranos on HBO Now, while Hulu is known for releasing new episodes of some of the most popular shows around a day or so after they are aired on TV.
So switching from one streaming service to another, taking advantage of free trials when they are available, might be a better option than focusing just on Netflix.
